4/21/25 - Finished Star Wars Collector's Edition, started Star Wars Episode III, started Dune
Hello, feasyheads!
Long time no see!
Last week I didn't really get much reading time, so I'm going to post a review of Star Wars: Collector's Edition. If anyone did't know, there's a book version of episodes I-VI (Might be more) and I'm reading them to build up to Star Wars Legends. The book I read has episodes I-III.
The Star Wars universe in my opinion is rich and well-built. The plot of the prequel trilogies is essential for Star Wars. After all, SPOILER ALERT we learn about Darth Vader's life as Anakin Skywalker, essential for understanding him as a character. Revenge of the Sith especially is where we see him turn from a promising Jedi into the Sith lord. I even watched part of the movie again.
Unfortunately, there was one thing that distracted me from enjoying the plot. The writing style. I get that Star Wars is supposed to be also suitable for younger kids, but the lack of accurate description, and frankly, the words weren't quite vivid enough. This turned the book into not an alternative for watching the movie, but an accessory because you need the movies to properly imagine the characters.
The writing style affected the story more than you'd think. It became one of those books, like Epic, where I didn't really enjoy the story at many points and just wanted to end it for the sake of it ending.
Thus, this book gets a 6.5 out of ten. Great plot, awful storytelling.
On the other hand, the next book I'm reading, a continuation of the series, is told in an incredibly descriptive and advanced writing style (How are they so different???) that has me reaching for a dictionary every few pages or so. There are some pretty strange analogies, too. (i.e. "...like an oriental poppy in a sea of oats) However, the book is descriptive enough to work for someone who has never watched the movies, and I'm really hooked.
This is all for today, feasyheads. See you tomorrow!
Good morning/afternoon/evening/night/3:00 AM,
Uncle Wally
